Harry Hurst is Director of Programs for the Simeone Museum in Philadelphia, an institution he helped Dr. Frederick Simeone launch in 2008. As part of his role, Harry put his 35 years of marketing experience to use in producing brochures and conceiving the unique “Demo Days” at the museum.
Harry’s interest in cars goes back to his first car, a 1953 MG TD that he still owns. This led to his first career as an English sports car mechanic and shop owner. He moved to Philadelphia to write the service training programs for Jaguar and then to a position as Technical Representative for DeLorean. His entry to the world of advertising allowed him to handle automotive clients like Exide, Dana, SKF, MAHLE, Odyssey, and Black & Decker. In several cases he also managed their motorsports involvement.
While still in college, Hurst was track photographer for the Sebring 12-Hour race in Florida. He also photographed races at Daytona and Road Atlanta during what many enthusiasts feel were the “glory days of racing.” Hurst has published two books on the Sebring 12-Hour race. The first edition of this book, 12 Hours Of Sebring 1970, was published in 2004 and he followed this up with books on the 1965 Sebring and the 1970 Road Atlanta Can-Am.
His photos have appeared in numerous books and magazines all over the world. In 2013 and 2018 he had a showing of his photographs at the Quail Lodge, a Motorsports Gathering.
Hurst is the founder of the Facebook group, “Glory Days of Racing” that is approaching 125,000 members.
